1. What was the inspiration behind the RAMI Collection for Raya 2026. How did it influence the design language of each piece?
Inspired by the idea of abundance, the RAMI Collection for Raya 2026 features thoughtful designs and a refined details. For KAMI, abundance reflects moments and togetherness, expressed through beauty, intention, and versatility for the many moments of Raya. Each piece reflects a balance between style and function, created to inspire confidence, feel effortless in wear, and remain timeless in design.
Defined by structured silhouettes, the collection features the KAMI belt as a signature statement, complemented by premium hardware and purposeful functionality to ensure ease and versatility. Designed for the Raya season and beyond, RAMI creates elevated fashion pieces you can wear through the festivities and remember long after.
2. Can you walk us through the creative process of designing the Shoulder Bag, Kinsley, and Berkley? What makes each piece unique?
In this collection, we intentionally created two structured bags, each featuring the KAMI belt as the signature.
The first is a daily fashion bag. Its structured silhouette is timeless, versatile, and effortlessly stylish—designed to move seamlessly from day to night. It is the kind of piece you’ll reach for almost every day, across occasions, seasons, and years.
The second introduces a semi-formal silhouette. Designed for events, dinners, and moments that call for a more polished presence, it brings a refined sense of luxury and chic sophistication.
Berkeley Bag
Defined by a sleek East–West silhouette and the KAMI belt as its signature icon, this design brings a modern, elongated proportion with a timeless appeal. The belt also functions as a securing closure with premium hardware.
The medium version includes a shoulder strap for effortless everyday wear, while the small version combines a structured top handle with a long strap, so you can wear it as a sling or shoulder bag.
Kinsley Bag
Featuring the KAMI belt as its signature icon, the strap is designed to be transformable and can be styled separately as a waist belt.
This thoughtful detail lets you carry the bag as a clutch, while you wear the strap at the waist like a belt for a more formal, elevated statement. Alternatively, you can wear it as a shoulder bag for a hands-free option, or hold it as a handbag for polished versatility across occasions.
Crafted in suede, the design brings a soft texture and rich depth that enhance its luxurious and elevated feel. The design is offered in two sizes, allowing for versatile styling and proportion.
The Material
In deciding the materials, we explored various patterns and finishes—testing and refining until we found what truly felt right for each design.
For Berkeley Bag, we chose a more matte finish to create a modern, understated look, enhanced with a subtle grainy texture that adds depth and character without overwhelming the silhouette.
For Kinsley Bag, after careful consideration of multiple materials, we ultimately selected suede. Its soft texture and rich appearance bring a more luxurious and elevated feel, perfectly complementing the bag’s refined, semi-formal character.
3. How do cultural elements or the spirit of Raya influence the materials, colors, and silhouettes in the RAMI Collection?
The RAMI Collection captures the spirit of Raya through thoughtful design choices, rather than relying on literal cultural references. We carefully select the materials for their quality and elegance, allowing each piece to feel luxurious yet comfortable for long Raya gatherings.
Earthy, harmonious color tones reflect the warmth of the season, while clean, structured silhouettes express modest elegance — refined enough for celebration, yet timeless beyond Raya.
4. The Shoulder Bag seems to be a standout piece — what design elements or features make it special for this collection?
The Shoulder Bag stands out for its trendy yet timeless design — an East-West silhouette that has existed since the 1950s and continues to experience a contemporary revival in today’s fashion landscape. This silhouette is defined by minimalism and quiet luxury.
The design is elevated with KAMI’s signature belt detail, serving as a subtle statement. Crafted from a distinctive material with a grain texture and matte finish, the bag appears refined and luxurious without relying on shine. This unique material quality adds depth and character, making the Shoulder Bag especially captivating and a standout piece within the RAMI Collection.
5. Can you describe the story or meaning behind the names Kinsley and Berkeley? How do they connect to the overall collection?
Kinsley and Berkeley are names rooted in European heritage, chosen for their tone and character rather than literal meaning. Within the RAMI Collection, the names are interpreted to reflect RAMI’s understanding of abundance as experienced during Hari Raya — a moment defined by reflection, gratitude, and renewal.
Kinsley, associated with the idea of a “king’s meadow,” represents a sense of fulfillment and generosity, while Berkeley, linked to the imagery of a “birch meadow,” evokes renewal and balance. Together, they express the spirit of Raya: returning to what is meaningful, feeling complete, and celebrating abundance through intention rather than excess.
6. If you had to describe the RAMI Collection’s vibe in three words, what would they be—and why?
Timeless, Luxurious, Versatile. Timeless reflects enduring silhouettes designed to stay relevant beyond seasons. Luxurious is expressed through refined materials and finishes. Versatile speaks to the collection’s ability to be worn in multiple ways, seamlessly complementing different looks from day to night.
7. How do you balance contemporary style with traditional influences in a festive collection like RAMI?
In the RAMI Collection, contemporary style is balanced with traditional influences by focusing on values rather than visual references. Instead of using overt traditional motifs, the collection interprets the spirit of Raya through refinement, modesty, and a sense of togetherness.
Contemporary elements come through clean lines, structured silhouettes, and modern proportions, while traditional influence shows up in the calm elegance, thoughtful craftsmanship, and versatile pieces I designed with festive gatherings in mind. This approach allows the collection to feel current yet respectful of the occasion, remaining timeless beyond the Raya season.
8. What kind of customer or lifestyle did you envision when creating these pieces? Who do you see wearing them during the Raya celebrations?
When creating the RAMI Collection, we envisioned a customer who values elegance, intention, and versatility — someone who appreciates refined design that fits seamlessly into both festive and everyday moments. She is thoughtful in her choices and drawn to pieces that feel timeless rather than trend-driven.
During Raya, we see her wearing these pieces from intimate family gatherings to festive visits and celebrations. She can move effortlessly through her day in these designs, feeling polished and confident—while staying comfortable and quietly luxurious.
9. Are there any particular design challenges you faced while creating this collection, and how did you overcome them?
We addressed this by carefully refining proportions, construction, and material choices — ensuring each piece maintains a structured silhouette without feeling rigid. One of the key challenges was finding the right balance between creating designs that feel timeless while still remaining relevant in today’s fashion landscape.
Another challenge was designing a single piece that could be worn in multiple ways while remaining versatile and cohesive in form. Each design was developed with precise technical consideration to ensure the shape stays neat and structured, while remaining comfortable to wear throughout long Raya gatherings.
Material selection also played a crucial role; choosing the right materials was essential to support the design, enhance the structure, and achieve a refined, luxurious appearance. Through thoughtful detailing and testing, the collection achieves a composed, functional, and versatile quality that extends beyond the festive season.
10. Looking ahead, how do you see the RAMI Collection evolving in future releases beyond Raya 2026?
Looking ahead, we see the RAMI Collection evolving as a foundation rather than a seasonal moment. While we introduced it for Raya 2026, we’ll continue to let its core values, timeless design, refined structure, and versatility to shape our future releases.
Moving forward, the collection may expand through new forms, sizes, and functional details, while staying true to its structured silhouettes and understated luxury. We envision RAMI as a long-term design language, one that will continue to shape thoughtfully over time, adapting to different moments and lifestyles beyond the Raya season.
