Women Crush February Issue – Up Close & Personal With Jasmine Redzuan

Jasmine Redzuan

Time flies fast and now we are already in the second month of the year. This month we are excited to bring you our women crush, Jasmine Redzuan who is building her career in the modelling industry. With her unique feature, incredible style, and lovely personality, this girl definitely caught our attention. Did you know she used to model for us on ZALORA website too? ZALORA is getting up close and personal with this lovely young lady, the beauty with brains, so wait no more and read down below to get to know her more.

1.       First and foremost, please give a brief introduction of yourself.

Hi. My name is Jasmine Redzuan and I’m 21 years old. I was born and raised in Malaysia and I’m mixed Malay & Russian. I’m a full-time student in my final year doing a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations with French. I also model on the side. I love animals, nature, music, and fashion.

2.       We realize you are a model. Please share with us how it all started.

I got into commercial modelling when I was 15, I just sent some pics to casting agents and attended castings which they sent me. I still remember my first job, it was for Panasonic Beauty! I haven’t really been able to break into fashion modeling much yet as it’s a very competitive industry.

3.       Describe to us how the day in the life of a model looks like?

Modelling days can be so unpredictable, call times can be as early as 6am. But usually it starts with me getting ready and doing my skincare. Then I head to set, I usually eat breakfast on set if it’s an early calltime and then I rush to get makeup & hair done. If it’s a catalogue shoot for clothes, I’ll be changing every few minutes in a day and can shoot probably around 40 looks if it’s a full day. For commercials, it’s a lot of smiling and acting naturally once the camera rolls. As soon as the cameras are off we wait for the clients to see if they like the shot and if not we redo it until we get a perfect take. After the perfect take there’s also backups hahaha, so it’s honestly just a lot of posing, acting and looking good for the camera! I do love it a lot and am grateful to be in the industry.

4.       What are some of your best memories working as a model in the industry?

Every shoot is always something new, I’m constantly meeting new people at almost every job and I don’t have fixed colleagues so that’s always fun!

But I do think my most memorable job was when I got flown out to Singapore to shoot for Fitness First. I was only 17 and I had my own hotel room and everything. I felt so grown up because I flew there myself and met with the crew. I also had a meltdown in the airport bathroom on the way back, I was very overwhelmed and going through a difficult time. The ups and downs have definitely made it a core memory of mine. (this was done with a guardian’s approval and supervision of course)

5.       You look stunning in every outfit you have on. Share with us who is/are your fashion inspirations.

Bella Hadid, Devon Lee Carlson, Matilda Djerf, Emily Ratajkowski and Lily Chee. I also get a lot of my inspiration from Pinterest and Tiktok!

6.       In three words, describe to us your sense of style.

Effortless, playful, timeless.

I try to give off the girl next door/model-off-duty kind of vibe through my style, and get an effortlessly chic look.

7.       What is your go-to outfit if you are in a rush?

Low – Mid waist baggy jeans and any body-hugging top.

8.       High heels? Sneakers? Ballerina flats?

This is a hard one. I think I have to give 50/50 to high heels and sneakers, I wear both heels and sneakers a lot, just depends on the mood.

9.       What is one item in your closet do you wear the most?

Dresses!! I’ve been loving dresses lately because they require little effort to put on and I immediately look put together.

10.    What are your go-to favourite brands from ZALORA?

I do quite like trendyol’s designs recently, Hollister and Missguided too, which I have actually modelled for on the Zalora website.

11.    You have flawless natural skin. Share with us your skincare regime.

I am lucky to have fairly good skin and I have never had that much acne. However, my skin gets super dry so I use moisturising products and keep myself hydrated.

For daytime, I use the simple hydrating face wash, aiken moisturiser and the hada labo hydrating lotion, followed by bioré sunscreen. As for nighttime, the same face wash finished with Palmer’s nighttime cream. I also recommend tea tree gel from the Thursday plantation for blemishes, and of course I always have vaseline on me!

12.    How do you keep yourself staying fit despite your busy working schedule?

I try to play sports a few times a week when I feel unmotivated and have a heavy workload for my university modules. A goal for 2023 though is for me to be more consistent with working out because I genuinely feel better when I incorporate daily exercise.

13.    What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

I am actually really shy! I think I try to present myself as pretty outgoing, but that’s me stepping way out of my comfort zone.

14.    What would be the best three words to describe to others about who you are as your own individual?

Happy-go-lucky, kind, resilient.

15.    Who is your all-time favourite Disney character?

Hannah Montana for sure! I was so jealous of her closet growing up.

16.    Name us a few TV series that can represent your personality, fashion sense, and lifestyle. And how they relate to you.

Gossip girl is definitely one of my favourites, I would say my personality is a mix of Blair and Serena and I loved a lot of the outfits in the show. It isn’t that relatable to my daily life but it’s just so fun to watch the drama.

Another personal favourite is Bojack Horseman, I just think it conveys the struggles of mental health issues really well. It manages to touch on a lot of sensitive topics. I can relate to Diane on the show.

I also loved Selling Sunset so much that I thought I should be a realtor lol. The women on the show put in a lot of effort and work to be successful, I admire that and even see part of myself in them. I also love how everyone is always dressed up in the office and wearing 5 inch stilettos! My favs on the show are Chrishell and Heather.

17.    If you could live a day in someone’s life, who would it be and why?

I think Jennie Kim, she’s the epitome of an ‘it girl’ in my eyes.

18.      What is one thing that a woman should do at least once in her life?

I don’t think I can give a very good answer. I just turned 21 and still have so much to experience, so someone should be advising me on this! But what I have learnt in my 21 years is to stop living for other people and to be myself, unapologetically.

19.      What is the best quote of life that you live by?

“What’s meant for you will come to you.” – It helps me accept that some things are just not meant for me, and when one door closes, another one opens.

20.    Every woman should know how to…

Be independent, love yourself, and dress for your body!
