Sahur Tips to Unlock The Best Ramadan Experience

Feeling drained while fasting? Here’s how to stay energized this Ramadan

Undeniably, fasting can still be tough for most people— it’s only reaching afternoon, but you’re already feeling weak and completely out of energy. Whether it’s weekdays, or just weekends, your steps feel so heavy that you keep dragging your feet near the fridge although it’s sinful to open it during midday Ramadan.

Oh, wait— you did have sahur, and even went for that extra serving of rice! But why even the simplest tasks seem like a chore, and why do you feel so drained?

Don’t fret! We’ve got you some sahur tips to help you stay focused and energized throughout the day:

1. Train Yourself to Wake Up Early

When you were a child, your parents probably had to shake you awake for sahur. Now that you’re on your own, waking up can feel like a struggle. But here’s the thing: the earlier you get up, the more time you’ll have to prepare a proper meal instead of just chugging water and going back to sleep.

Consistency is key! Grab your phone and set your alarms. When you successfully wake up on time before the call to prayer and have a proper sahur, only then will you have enough energy and be able to stay focused on work when your stomach doesn’t rumble.

2. Don’t Sleep Again After Fajr

Be honest— how many times have you gone straight back to your bed right after sahur? (We’re watching you!) Then, when the clock only strikes 12 pm, you wonder why you feel so sluggish. FYI, that’s because because your body didn’t have enough time to properly convert food into energy before you dozed off.

So, try doing something light such as stretching, making your bed, taking bath, or even reading. This will help to kickstart your metabolism and keep you feeling fresh for longer!

3. Instant Noodles for Sahur? Think Again

No wonder you’re starving by noon like a cranky five years old!

This sahur, make the most by having a balanced meal. Opt for nutrient-rich foods like:

  • Egg
  • Greek yogurt
  • Oatmeal
  • Fish or chicken
  • Nuts

Try making a date milk juice! Just soak the dates overnight, blend them with milk, and enjoy it during sahur and iftar to stay energized and focused throughout the day— just don’t drink it during Asar!

4. Avoid Consuming These Foods and Drinks

  • Tea, coffee & sugary drinks: These can dehydrate you quickly and cause sugar spikes, leading to sudden energy crashes and hunger.
  • Oily & fried foods: They can cause bloating, sluggishness, and make it harder to focus, especially during morning prayers.
  • White bread & cereal: High in refined carbs, they lead to rapid sugar fluctuations, making you feel hungry and sleepy faster.
  • Spicy foods: They can irritate the stomach lining, potentially leading to heartburn, acid reflux, or indigestion.

By making small changes to your suhoor routine, we’re sure you’ll be more productive and have the most out of your fasting experience. See the different yourself by trying these tips!

May blessings be upon us all in this blessed month. Happy Ramadan!
