Another month another Men Crush Issue and this time, we have Arvind Gorasia in the house! Arvind is an entrepreneur, model, actor, and host; talk about an all-rounder, right? So, as we get into Merdeka month, we ask what does merdeka means to him while also getting to know him more as a person but most importantly, a Malaysian. Read our exclusive Men Crush Issue for August interview below!
1. Give us a little insight on what you do for a living.
Firstly, thank you so much for having me on ZALORA Blog’s Men Crush Issue. I’m an entrepreneur and I run a couple of small businesses to support myself and my family. I enjoy researching and trading cryptocurrency which has helped me to be able to branch out into other businesses such as starting a new supplement company as well as to pursue my lifelong dream in the entertainment industry.
2. We noticed that you are a finalist of Mr World Malaysia 2022. Tell us more about that.
I found out online that Universal Music Malaysia was having an audition, so I decided to take part in it for some exposure. To my surprise, I was selected to be the top 24 finalist! So far it has been fun and exciting for the preliminaries of Mr World Malaysia 2022. I have made so many new friends from different cultures and backgrounds which really keeps me looking forward to what’s coming up next in the competition.
3. What made you want to enter pageants in the first place?
This is actually the first time I joined a pageant and joining Mr. World Malaysia was not planned at all! In the past, the exposures I’ve had was from modelling, acting, and hosting. Pageantry is something completely different and I’d like to give myself the opportunity to create a brand for myself as well as to try something new.
4. What is the best thing you have learned in your pageantry experience?
Given the short period of time that I’ve been involved in pageantry, I personally feel I’ve learned a lot about confidence, consistency, and self-growth. I’ve also learned the true meaning of being a role model for people as well as making an impact on the world via strong advocacies.
5. We see that you model too. Do you see that as a career choice?
Modelling has been a passion from a young age, and I still enjoy it very much. I do see it as a part-time career choice as I’m still considered a fresh face in the industry. If given the opportunity, I really do look forward to collaborating and working with more companies and brands in the future to grow myself as an established model.
6. Who is the most stylish model that you look up to?
Everyone is unique in their own way. I don’t have a particular model that I look up to. I prefer learning or getting ideas from anyone that catches my attention at any point in time. As long as they are good at what they do, I’d see them as guides in my career.
7. For which brand would you like to model if given the opportunity?
Hey, ZALORA!
8. What song instantly puts you into a good mood?
There are so many! If I had to choose one current song I’d say “As It Was” by Harry Styles.
9. A big no for you in terms of fashion?
Wearing skinny jeans with slippers. It just won’t work.
10. In your opinion, what is one thing people should pay more attention to?
Many people pay a lot of attention chasing perfection, that they forget progression is the key to reaching perfection.
11. What is your unpopular opinion?
Many think eating heavy at night makes you gain weight/fats. Totally disagree. I eat heavy like pizza and even nasi kandar before bed. It’s about how many calories you’re consuming throughout the day.
12. We are celebrating our Independence Day this month. What does independence mean to you?
Our Independence Day, Hari Merdeka is a blessing to all Malaysians regardless of race and religion for it was the day we earned our independence to live the life we want to. Now after 65 years of independence I’m truly grateful to be showered with the beauty of diversity and cultural complexity of our country. Merdeka means to be free and here we are after 65 years united and strong as a nation. It’s just beautiful.
13. What is your proudest moment as a Malaysian?
Coming from a family that speaks English 99% of the time, language was a barrier for me. Now I am able to even speak Mandarin and Tamil! For most people around the world, learning completely different languages is not an easy task. Today, I feel proud that there are more and more Malaysians being able to speak each other’s native languages and that is the beauty of being Malaysian.
14. Who is your celebrity crush?
Megan Fox.
15. What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
Other than speaking a few languages, I was also selling waffles and ice cream in a food stall just a couple years back. It was one of the low moments in my life but hey, I’m here being interviewed by THREAD BY ZALORA. You never know when things will suddenly take a turn for you, never give up and always be positive!
16. What is the most valuable clothing item that you currently have in your wardrobe?
Leather jacket from Zara.
17. If you could have superpowers, what would it be?
Teleportation.
18. What is the best advice you have ever gotten?
Know where you’re going, keep going, and you will eventually get there.
19. Any advice for kids who want to act?
Acting can be really fun and exciting. If you want to give it a try, read about the basics of acting and always think of ways to improve your skills to perform better. Ultimately just have fun and enjoy the journey.
20. Every man in Malaysia should know how to….
Cook! What we all Malaysians have in common is our love for food. Fitness starts in the kitchen plus it will definitely leave your partner with a smile on their face.
