Cake Picnic: Malaysia Is Getting the Hype Now

What Is a Cake Picnic?

Unlike a regular picnic, a Cake Picnic puts cake in the spotlight. It’s a whimsical gathering for dessert enthusiasts, celebrating every kind of creation—from light chiffon to upside-down cakes and beyond. The concept was dreamed up by Elisa Sunga, founder of Cake Picnic in the United States, with the goal of uniting people through their shared love of sweets. Guests gather to enjoy sugar-filled joy, surrounded by tables filled with cakes. The event also serves as an aesthetic experience, where photos are taken, stories are shared, and memories are created through every slice. But most importantly, you need to have atleast one cake to join!

Why Is It Trending Now in Malaysia?

Cake Picnics have quickly become the ultimate recipe for joy in Malaysia, blending food, friendship, and picture-perfect aesthetics. The trend first took off with Cake Piknik, the pioneering organiser founded by cake enthusiasts Nadia Halina, Amalina Jamil, Nur Sarah, Tan U-Mae, and F&B expert Julieann Ragojo. Their debut event in early 2025 brought together about 30 participants, each arriving with their own cake to share.

Cake Picnics are budget-friendly and visually appealing, allowing anyone to join in the fun. They unite communities and spark new friendships, making them a popular choice among Malaysians. Since Cake Piknik’s launch, more bakers and creative collectives have started hosting their own Cake Picnic events, spreading joy across the country.
